Today I wanted to try and get away from the yuri streak that I’ve been posting, so I made my top ten romantic comedies list. Keep in mind that when making this list I was aiming for a specific genre. I narrowed down the list to anime that have a main couple that is aiming to get together with comedy added into this process.
I got rid of any anime that seemed like a harem or didn’t focus on comedy. So anime like Shakugan no Shana were cut because it focuses more on action. Also, Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club was removed because it focuses more on many characters and not really the romance between the two main characters. A few anime that didn’t make the list (in no specific order):. Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride). Kimi ni Todoke.
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl and the Black Prince). Inu x Boku SS. Nogizaka Haruka.
Sukitte li na yo (Say “I love you”). Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster) Without further to do, here are my top ten romantic comedies.
On the left is Yuu and Miki is on the right 10. Anime: Marmalade Boy Episode Count: 76 Episodes + 1 Movie Description: The story focuses on a normal high school girl named Miki Koishikawa. One day her parents break the news to her that they are getting a divorce because they both fell in love with someone else. Miki is upset by the news, but then learns that her parents will still be living together. Apparently, Miki’s parents fell in love with another couple, so the two families decide to switch spouses.
The other couple also are parents, and all four adults believe it is best for the two families to just merge under one roof. Miki becomes confused and upset by this news, but eventually agrees to the idea after meeting her new handsome step-brother, Yuu Matsuura. The two eventual discover their mutural feelings for each other, but to get to that point they must face a lot of trouble. Where you can watch it: anime.place (It does have an English Dub) My Opinion: I really enjoyed this anime for the humor and drama. It was hard watching the two characters jump through hoops to finally get together.
Even together, they had struggles. I liked the comedy in the anime because it was a lot of teasing and joking around. It did slow down a bit in the middle of the series, but I did enjoy this anime a lot overall. The comedic duo. Ootani on the left and Risa on the right.
Sasameki Koto Episode 1 English Sub
Anime: Lovely Complex Episode Count: 24 Description: The two main characters, Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Ootani, are both a little different than normal high school students. Risa is abnormally large for a girl and Atsushi is abnormally short for a boy. These two characters constantly bicker causing the teachers at the school to refer to them as a comedy duo. Eventually these two becoming closer through different events that happen in each others lives. They start to go to each other for support, and they eventually fall in love. Where you can watch it: Anime1.com (There is an English Dub) My Opinion: I really enjoyed this series because of the comedy duo. These two characters play off each other really well, but they also realize when they can’t joke around.
It was fun to watch as these two characters grew from a comic duo to lovers. The struggles they had to face are normal for high school students. Many people tired to get in between these two, but they always seemed to pull through. It was a cute anime, and I enjoyed watching it. On the left is Ushio and Sumika is on the right 8. Anime: Sasameki Koto Episode Count: 13 Description: Sumika Murasame and Ushio Kazama have been friends for a long period of time. Sumika is popular in high school for her amazing academic and sport skills.
Ushio is a cute girl who seems to constantly fall in love with other cute girls, however Ushio is often rejected by all her crushes. Sumika might be Ushio’s best friend, but she has one major secret that she must hide from Ushio. Sumika has fallen deeply in love with Ushio, but Ushio will never look her way. Sumika is crushed by the fact that she isn’t small and cute, which are the two criteria that Ushio seems to look for when she falls in love.
Will Ushio ever figure out Sumika’s feelings and will Sumika ever become cute enough to capture Ushio’s attention? Where you can watch it: Anime1 My Opinion: I had to at least fit one amazing yuri anime into the list, and Sasameki Koto happened to get into my top ten. I love the story between these two. Sumika struggles so hard to become cute to get Ushio’s attention. She often has a hard time breaking character to become cute.
She is also a bit awkward which makes all the situations funnier. The story between these two characters takes its sweet time, but comedy between these two keep you watching and waiting for their feelings to finally collide. I will admit the anime ends a bit awkwardly, but the manga continues. The best part of the anime is at the beginning Sumika seems to try hard to hide her feels while in the end she becomes more and more open to pursuing Ushio. On the left is Kinjirou and Subaru is on the right 7. Anime: Mayo Chiki Episode Count: 13 Description: The anime focuses on the main character Kinjirou Sakamachi who has gynophobia, or the fear of women. Because as a child he was often the sparring partner for his mother and sister, who love to wrestle, he automatically gets a nose bleed when touched by a girl. One day Kinjirou finds out that the daughter of the principle’s butler, Subaru Konoe, is actually a female.
He then has to help keep this secret from getting out because Subaru has to stop becoming a butler if her secret is discovered. The priniciple’s daughter, Kanade Suzutsuki also finds out about Kinjirou’s gynophobia and offers to help him get over it in return for keeping his mouth shut.
Kanade does this by constantly teasing Kinjirou either using her own body or using Subaru. Kinjirou’s school life becomes significantly more difficult because he surrounded by more females, and he has to keep a major secret to protect his new friend.
Where you can watch it: Hulu (This has an English Dub) My Opinion: I loved this anime when I first watched it. I will admit this anime is pushing my no harem limit I had made when deciding on anime for this list. Although there are many girls, the main character only really likes the one specifically. The anime has many comedic scene where Kinjirou’s gynophobia is tested. Also the scared of Subaru’s secret getting out makes the anime even more comedic and entertaining. Yamada is in the center and Takashi is the only boy.
Anime: B Gata H Kei Episode Count: 12 Description: Yamada is a gorgeous girl who can get almost any boy that she wants. As she is entering her first year of high school, she sets a goal for herself to have casual sex with 100 men.
The only problem Yamada faces is she feels her vagina looks weird. This causes her to aggressively turn down any man she believes has sexual experience because she is scared he might tease her. To fix this problem, Yamada decides that she will aim for losing her virginity with another virgin, therefore he would not be able to tease her about her vagina. Yamada soon after happens to meet an innocent looking boy,Takashi Kosuda, while shopping at a local book store. She begins to target him, so she can begin her journey of having 100 sex friends. Little does she realize that there are more steps to having sex with someone than she expected, and her lack of knowledge in the art of seduction and sex make it harder for her to lose her virginity.
Where you can watch it: Netflix (There is an English Dub) My Opinion: I loved the concept of this anime. The main character is a girl who wants to have 100 sex friends, but doesn’t know the first thing about sex. It is fun to watch Yamada struggle as she tries to seduce Takashi. It is also cute to watch as Yamada slowly becomes more and more attached to Takashi throughout this process.
The anime in general is very funny and enjoyable, but it is also ecchi. Shining wind ps2. Beware if you don’t like ecchi anime. Sana is hitting Akito with a hammer 5. Anime: Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) Episode Count: 102 Description: The anime focuses on the child actor Sana Kurata.
Sana’s mother, Misako Kurata, is a famous writer. Sana’s only problem seems to be with the trouble-maker Akito Hayama. Akito seems to lead a group of boys in disrupting the class. Sana is determined to help Akito, so he will stop disturbing the class, but Akito’s problems are a lot deeper than Sana had originally thought. Where you can watch it: animeskull (I don’t know how safe this site is though. There are heavy copy-rights on this series.) My Opinion: This was one of the first anime I have seen.
It was great when I started it because it had lots of comedy and the characters were cute. Eventually there was a lot more drama and the you got the know the characters more. The character growth in the anime is amazing, and I loved every episode of this anime.
It was hard to accept some of the plot because it made you angry, but all the pain was worth it in the end. From left to right (Ryuuji Takasu, Ami Kawashima,Yuusaka Kitamura, Minori Kushieda, Taiga Aisaka) 4. Anime: Toradora Episode Count: 25 + 1 OVA + Specials Description: Ryuuji Takasu has always had trouble with people thinking he is a delinquent because of his eyes.
This doesn’t stop as he enters his second year of high school. Taiga Aisaka is a short girl with an aggressive temper which caused other students to nickname her the palm-top tiger. Taiga and Ryuuji’s lives become intertwined when Taiga accidently gives Ryuuji a love letter meant for Ryuuji’s best friend Yuusaku Kitamura. Taiga soon realizes that Ryuuji has a crush on her own best friend, Minori Kushieda. The two make an agreement to try and help the other become closer with each other’s best friend. This however proves to be tougher than Taiga and Ryuuji thought.
Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll (But you need a membership), Hulu My Opinion: This is one of my favorite romantic comedies. All of the characters are amazing and there is plenty of comedy going around. It is amazing how the strangest characters are actually know the most about what is going on. There are lots of lines in the anime that have deeper meaning than it originally sounds. The characters all have to face the challenges of high school together, but they all become stronger by facing the challenges head on. Nozaki is on the left and Chiyo is on the right 3.
Anime: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Episode Count: 12 Description: Chiyo Sakura has a deep crush on her classmate Umetarou Nozaki. However when she confesses her feelings for him, Nozaki misunderstands and thinks Chiyo is a fan of his popular shoujo manga. Because Sakura has some art talent, Nozaki recruits Chiyo to help him with his monthly mangas. Although Chiyo is happy to be able to get closer to Nozaki through his manga, she still aims to confess her feelings for Nozaki in a way he will understand. Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll My Opinion: Although this anime just came out in 2014, it quickly became one of my favorite anime.
The comedy in this anime is like no other. There are many moments that you believe the stereotypical situation will happen, and the anime takes an abrupt left turn. The comedy between all the characters is fresh and new and always keeps you entertained. The romance in this anime lacks a bit, but it is definitely a fresh new type of romantic comedy.
From left to right. (Megumi Yamamoto, Hikari Hanazono, Akira Toudou, Tadashi Karino, Kei Takishima, Jun Yamamoto, Ryuu Tsuji) 2. Anime: Special A Episode Count: 24 Description: Hikari Hanazono has always been a hard worker. Since she was small, her father taught her professional wrestling moves.
She became slightly cocky because she didn’t lose fights, until she met Kei Takishima, the heir to the Takishima company. Kei was the first person Hikari ever lost to, and she is unable to beat him in any event. Hikari often challenges Kei in contests of skill to finally beat her rival. Because Hikari only sees Kei as a rival, she is oblivious of Kei’s feelings towards her. Will Hikari ever discover Kei’s feelings, or will Kei just be her ultimate rival? Where you can watch it: Anime1 (There is an English Dub) My Opinion: This anime has always been one of my favorite. I love all the characters in this series, especially Hikari and Kei.
It is amusing how Kei tries so hard to get Hikari to realize his feeling, and he just continues to get shot down by her denseness. Eventually Kei accepts that Hikari won’t understand his feelings, but he is also constantly surprised by Hikari too. The anime has a great mix of romance and comedy, but it mostly focuses on comedy more than romance.
Misaki is on the left and Usui is on the right 1. Anime: Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!
(Class President is a Maid!) Episode Count: 26 Description: Misaki Ayuzawa is the the student counil president of her high school. Because the school used to be an all boy’s school, the population of girls compared to boys is significantly lower. This causes the boys to act rowdy and somewhat scare the female population. Misaki makes it her job to be super strict towards the males to try and control their behavior. Misaki is stuck going to that high school because of her families finacial situation.
The school is inexpensive to attend, so Misaki doesn’t have the luxury of changing schools causing her to want improve the school. To help her family finacially, Misaki gets a job as a maid in the next town over. Misaki keeps this a secret from her school friends because she feels she would lose the respect she has gained over time if people found out she was working as a maid. However, one day, the most popular boy in school, Takumi Usui, find out about Misaki’s secret and will only keep it if she agrees to hang out with him. Where you can watch it: Youtube (There is an English Dub) My Opinion: This is my favorite romantic comedy because there is a good balance between romance and comedy within this manga. It has many funny scenes and moments, but it also is good at creating a romantic atmosphere between the two main characters. Also, the two main characters are perfect for each other.
Usui is great at calming down Misaki when she tends to over react. These two strong main characters add great comedy to this anime and are one of the most adorable anime couples of all time. So, I wanted to write a short post today talking about the arrival of yuri manga getting published in English. This has been becoming the greatest thing ever.
Most of the published manga comes from the company Seven Seas Entertainment. They are known for popular titles such as Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends, A Certain Scientific Railgun, and Mayo Chiki. However, the company also believes in giving manga fans more than just popular titles, so they have also been selling great yuri mangas as well. Milk Morinaga, the well known yuri author of the well loved series Girl Friends, has had three different series published just by this company alone, this does include Girl Friends.
Girl Friends by Milk Morinaga Akko and Mari The exciting part about this is now yuri lovers can help support the manga franchise by purchasing the manga and not reading it offline. The purchasing of these mangas are also encouraged by scanlation groups. Usually when a manga becoming offically published, the site doesn’t allow people to read it online anymore. This can sometimes be dissapointing, especially when you don’t have any money for manga, but personally I get really excited when I can read manga in physical book form and call it mine. The main reason I wanted to write about this is because I just recently was able to pick up my Citrus manga that came in. Citrus has become the most popular yuri manga in recently years. I will write a review about this manga eventually, but in short it is a manga about two step-sisters who start living together because their parents remarry.
The girl’s are polar opposites, and they don’t really start off on the right foot. It follows the main character Yuzu as she figures out her sexual feelings for her sister while having to choose the difficult path of just being sisters or becoming more. The story has lots of great characters and drama. The next volume of the manga is coming out on April 7, 2015, and I can’t wait. Sasameki Koto by Takashi Ikeda Ushio Kazama and Sumika Murasame I am so hyped that yuri manga has been slowly coming to America.
Sasameki Koto Manga
When I saw GirlFriends on the shelf of Barnes and Nobel, I was ecstatic. Although I admit it is somewhat hard to purchase yuri manga at the store because no one feels comfortable getting judged by the book store’s clerk. I mean the Citrus cover page is not discrete at all.
You can still purchase the manga online, like through amazon, and enjoy getting your manga in the safety of your own home. Feiyon 14/365 Here are links to and. Yuri Titles Released by the Company Seven Seas Entertainment:. First Love Sisters.
